2009 Events

NASC Speed Skating Competition October 2009

Ayrshire Flyers Speed Skating Club would like to thank NASC for providing trophies and ice for the competition held in the Magnum Leisure Centre on Sunday 18th October. It was well attended with competitors coming from clubs as far south as Birmingham and as far north as Dundee.

Cunningham Cup 2009

On a trying day at Middleton Fishery the 2009 Cunninghame Cup was held. The number of entrants was slightly down on last year but attracted a few new faces to the Event. Although the fish played hard to get there were some lovely specimens on show at the weigh-in. The Event was nearly a clean sweep for the McClymont family from Saltcoats. Father Bud and his twin sons Bryan and Kenny took the top three places with Bryan holding onto the heaviest fish until the last competitor weighed in and he was beaten by Paul Webster by three ounces.

NASC Karate Competition, October 2009

There was a fantastic turnout from the competing clubs – Shibumi Karate Club and Takeda Karate Club. The competitors were encouraged by fellow club members as well as parents.

SALSC National Junior Bowls Tournament, June 2009

The prestigious SALSC National Junior Bowls Tournament was won this year by Dunfermline who beat Renfrewshire in an entertaining final to take the David Arnott Cup.

NASC Cup - 2009

On a beautiful May morning 26 anglers turned up to fish the North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup at the Busbie Muir Dam just outside Ardrossan. A blanket of excitement and anticipation submerged the competitors before the start generating an electric atmosphere. Full report

Magnum Open 2009

The Magnum Open figure skating competition was held at the rink on the weekend of the 7th and 8th March 2009 with a record entry this year of over 240 skaters. Full report

Cunninghame Cup, December 2008

On a very cold and frosty morning on 7th December 2008, nineteen crazy, brave, or a mixture of both, anglers battled their way up hill and along very slippery roads to get to Fairlie Moor to fish the Cunninghame Cup. Full report

Shibumi Karate Club Championship, December 2008

The Shibumi Karate Club Championship held in December 2008 had a fantastic turn out. Our Club greatly benefited from the support given by the Sports Council in supplying the trophies. A great time was had by all, encouraging everyone to continue with their Karate training. Photos

Sports Council Rifle Competition November 2008

A successful rifle shoot involving all Member Clubs was held the Garelochhead field firing range. The match comprised a series of disciplines to test both ‘open’ sights (mainly on vintage and veteran rifles) and optical or telescopic sights. Full report and photos

Sea-Fishing: West of Scotland Sea Fishing Contest - 31st August 2008

On Sunday 31st August Saltcoats Slabs was the venue of the West of Scotland Sea Fishing Contest supported by North Ayrshire Sports Council when a total of 35 attended made up of Juniors and Seniors. Full report.

NASC Black Powder Competition - 29th June 2008

A Black Powder Pistol Competition, hosted by Shandon Club, at Inverclyde Range Largs on Sunday 29th June 2008 was supported by North Ayrshire Sports Council. Congratulations to the Man of the Match, Mr J Burnhill, who swept the board in all three disciplines. Full report

SALSC Junior Bowling Championship - 28th June 2008

North Ayrshire’s Braw Lads team secured victory at the SALSC Junior Bowling Championship to become Champion Junior Bowlers of 2008. Full report

Hockey Rules in the Garnock Valley - 17th May 2008

On Saturday 17th May Garnock Hockey Club held a junior coaching session and tournament at Meadowside in Beith for primary school children. The enthusiasm, behaviour and skill of the children was extremely encouraging and very promising for hockey locally. (full results).

North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup for Fly Fishing - 19th April, 2008

The North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup for Fly Fishing was fished for on Saturday 19th April 2008 at Middleton Fishery, set amid the green pastures of the lower slopes of Brisbane Glen near Largs. (full results).

Ayrshire Table Tennis Championships - 24th February, 2008

NASC supported the Ayrshire Table Tennis Championships, organised by North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club. More than seventy five children from all over Ayrshire competed. The new facilities at St Matthew’s Academy enabled the club to host their biggest tournament to date, which included adults for the first time in the first senior championship to be held for over 20 years. An exhibition match between two current Scottish Internationalists, brothers Chris and Richard Main, enthralled the crowd of over 200. (full results).

Speed Skating - NASC Open, 10th February 2008

The North Ayrshire Sports Council Speek Skating Open was held at the Magnum Leisure centre on Sunday 10th February, 2008. This event had the biggest turnout the Ayrshire Flyers have hosted at the Magnum. The event attracted skaters from around Scotland, England and Wales.

It was an exciting afternoon of racing, with lots of hard fought races and some dramatic falls. The medal table saw Ayrshire Flyers with 9, Mohawks 5, Nottingham 3, Dundee 2 and Flintshire 1. Full results.
