Date for your Diary: Cunninghame Cup, 7 December 2008
The Cunninghame Cup 2008, supported by North Ayrshire Sports Council, will take place on
Sunday 7th December at Fairlie Moor Fishery
from 9am to 3.30pm. The entry fee is £15. This will be a pegged match. To book your place please contact the Fishery on 07904-226090.
There will be trophies for first, second, third and heaviest four fish then catch & release (2lb for each fish thereafter). Rules
will be given on the day.

North Ayrshire Sports Council comes of age.
The idea of forming a local Sports Council came about over
25 years ago and has grown from strength to strength through these
many years.

NASC Black Powder Competition - 29th June 2008
A Black Powder Pistol Competition, hosted by Shandon Club, at Inverclyde Range Largs on
Sunday 29th June 2008 was supported by North Ayrshire Sports Council. Congratulations to the
Man of the Match, Mr J Burnhill, who swept the board in all three disciplines.

Sea-Fishing: West of Scotland Sea Fishing Contest - 31st August 2008
On Sunday 31st August Saltcoats Slabs was the venue of the West of Scotland Sea Fishing Contest
supported by North Ayrshire Sports Council when a total of 35 attended made up of Juniors and Seniors.

SALSC Junior Bowling Championship - 28th June 2008
North Ayrshire’s Braw Lads team secured victory at the SALSC Junior Bowling Championship
to become Champion Junior Bowlers of 2008.

Hockey Rules in the Garnock Valley - 17th May 2008
On Saturday 17th May Garnock Hockey Club held a junior coaching session
and tournament at Meadowside in Beith for primary school children.
The enthusiasm, behaviour and skill of the children was extremely encouraging
and very promising for hockey locally.

April, 2008
The North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup for Fly Fishing
was fished for on Saturday 19th April 2008 at Middleton Fishery,
set amid the green pastures of the lower slopes of Brisbane
Glen near Largs.

Annual Quiz Night - 28th March 2008
The North Ayrshire Sports Council 2008 Quiz Night on 28th
March was rated a huge success, held in the convivial surroundings
of the Argyle Centre, Saltcoats. The Annual Winners’ Shield,
kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Maloney proprietors of FAIRWAYS
in Irvine, suppliers of fine trophies to discerning sports people,
is now in its second year.
The Quiz Team Aguilera from Eglinton Ladies Hockey
Club took the honours this year.

Ayrshire Table Tennis Championships - 24th February, 2008
NASC supported the Ayrshire Table
Tennis Championships, organised by North Ayrshire
Table Tennis Club. More than seventy five children
from all over Ayrshire competed. The new facilities at St Matthew’s
Academy enabled the club to host their biggest tournament to
date, which included adults for the first time in the first
senior championship to be held for over 20 years. An exhibition
match between two current Scottish Internationalists, brothers
Chris and Richard Main, enthralled the crowd of over 200.

Speed Skating: NASC Open 2008
The North Ayrshire Sports Council Speed Skating Open
was held at the Magnum Leisure centre on Sunday 10th
February, 2008. This event had the biggest turnout
the Ayrshire Flyers have hosted at the Magnum. The event attracted
skaters from around Scotland, England and Wales.
It was an exciting afternoon of racing, with lots of hard
fought races and some dramatic falls. The medal table saw
Ayrshire Flyers with 9,
Mohawks 5, Nottingham 3,
Dundee 2 and Flintshire 1.

Table Tennis
Richard Main from North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club has just
returned from the Algarve in Portugal where he was representing
Scotland in the Portuguese Youth Table Tennis Championships
as part of the British squad.

The Subscriptions have been held for yet another year at
£10 for club affiliation and £2
for an individual member. All subscriptions are now due and prompt
payment helps the work of the Sports Council to continue.
